Edward & Shannon | Marriage proposal Buffalo NY | Wedding Photography Buffalo NY

We’d like to congratulate Shannon and Edward on their Engagement!

I first met Edward about six weeks ago when he hired me to document the surprise proposal to his girlfriend, Shannon. We met up at the Rusty Nickel Brewing Co., the venue for the proposal, to go over all the details with owner Jason Havens. The original plan: The brewery will be closed to the public for the night, and several employees will roleplay as customers. Kristen, the violinist, and I will be busying ourselves drinking and playing games. Jason will give us the heads up about 15min before the Couple’s arrival so we can be in position. When Edward and Shannon arrive, they’ll take a seat at a table in the middle of the Brewery, I’ll wait for Edwards signal, at which point Kristen will start playing her violin and I’ll get into position to capture the proposal. So, this was the plan, and I couldn’t wait to see how the night unfolded. The key to any good surprise is keeping the surprisee in the dark. Edward was careful not to let too many people in on the secret; namely, he only told his father and perspective father-in-law (both mother/mother-in-law were kept in the dark for fear of “spilling the beans” as it were).

Just a little backstory on the Rusty Nickel Brewing Co. Owners, Jason, Dave and Scott began conceptualizing their dream for the Brewery back in 2013. After a couple years of fundraising, planning, designing and construction on their West Seneca location, they were ready to open the doors just in time for St. Patrick’s Day 2015! Situated behind the Ebenezer Ale House, the Brewery boasts a rustic-theme, complete with a tasting room and beer garden. They hold bi-weekly Hues and Brews events for those looking to pair the perfect pint with some crafting fun, and show all Bills, Bulls, Sabres and Prime Time Sports events.

At the designated time, I arrived at the Brewery to get set-up and prepare for the big moment. Proposals can be tricky and I needed to be in the right place at the right time to capture Shannon’s expression as she began to realize what’s going on. Right off the bat, I was thrown a curve ball when Shannon sat in the seat opposite from where we’d planned. This meant that I needed to move around her to get her face when Edward pulled out the ring. I made it just in time! Of course, she said YES (otherwise I wouldn’t be writing this blog). Friends and family were on hand to give the happy Couple their blessings and I can deem the night a complete success. I wish Shannon and Edward all the best and would like to thank them for inviting me to be a part of this special moment!
