This is one I’ll never forget! The wedding of Shawn and Debra during the fall of 2014 was a magical event. Sci-fi and fantasy were their inspiration, with the save the dates having a Star Wars/ Star Trek theme and the cake toppers fighting an unknown army together. The men were decked out in kilts, with the groom, appropriately, brandishing a life-size medieval sword.

Shawn and Debra first met 15 years ago at a LARP (live action role playing game). It wasn’t until 3 years ago that they met again at a party and the first sparks began to fly. When all heads had cleared, they both realized that each had a uniquely dark sense of humor and a love of the absurd. They quickly fell in love, lamenting only that they didn’t meet sooner.

Shawn planned his proposal to take place during a long weekend in Chicago. He swears to this day most of his nerves were from trying to keep it from Debra and swearing the whole time she must have known something – she didn’t. After a day of going to the zoo and botanical gardens, they decided to grab a pizza and eat by the Hudson. Then, Shawn got down on one knee, opened the ring box (while Debra was crying) and said, “He wanted to make it illegal for other men to sleep with me.” Of course she said yes! Shawn admits that the whole way down to the waterfront, while he was trying to compose his thoughts, he kept getting interrupted by the words, “Damn, a Chicago deep dish pizza is heavy!”

Debra adores how warm and loving and funny Shawn is, and the amazing conversations they have. Shawn admires Debra’s strength and quick wit. He’s never met someone who can consistently verbally spar with him without becoming offended, or get him to admit when he’s wrong or truly one up him.

The one thing they’re both looking forward to the most – not having to deal with any more wedding plans! And they’d like to give the following advice to other couples planning a wedding, “Let someone else plan it.” Congratulations to the happy couple and I look forward to working with them in the future.
