Wedding Ceremony and Reception | Byblos Niagara Resort and Spa, Grand Island, NY
One of my favorite weddings this year was between Savannah and Peter, at the Byblos Niagara Resort and Spa, Grand Island, NY. Savannah had everything planned out for the photography, timelines set etc., and Peter was nowhere to be found. It took the two of us some time to realize he was avoiding the pictures on purpose and just wanted to hang with his friends. Savannah, however, was very persuasive, and I was finally able to grab a few shots of him and his groomsmen.
As always, I love it when weird things happen at weddings (because then I have interesting stories to tell). This time it was a fire alarm, and the whole hotel had to evacuate till the “All Clear” was given (but we took the dress with us just in case)! It happened in the middle of the bride’s getting ready, so not too terrible, but still put the day behind schedule. The one shot the bride insisted on was to hold hands without seeing each other before the ceremony. Luckily, she had rented the adjoining hotel room, and I was able to get the groom on the other side of the privacy wall. I think it made for a nice moment.
The ceremony took place right outside the hotel next to the Niagara River. It was a lovely sunny day, with a bit of wind, which made for some nice veil action. I decided to use the river as the backdrop for the formals and creatives. The bride’s color them, dark plum, made for wonderful photos. The contrast between the white gown and the dark vibrant dresses really makes the shot pop. The end of the night got a bit awkward when the guy who caught the garter ended up having to put it onto the girl who caught the bouquet, who was his cousin :) but they both took it as a laugh and moved on. Thank you again to Savannah and Peter for asking me to be a part of their special day.
